HEY LADIES! This blog is inspired by my personal journey through motherhood and fitness. I have been a student, an athlete, a personal trainer, a coach, a group class instructor, and the most challenging vocation of them all has been motherhood. Because of my own struggles with the transition from career woman and spouse to mom, I have always loved hearing another woman’s experience, from her pregnancy, to her birth story, all the way to her current sentiments. I believe that lifting each other up through encouragement and love is always the right answer. Our aim is to create a space where movement is our medium and that the mama community comes together, where all experiences are heard through understanding ears and an empathetic heart.
Strong Like a Mother is a community where every mother will be welcomed with open arms and that whatever her journey may look like, that she has got a friend in us. We believe that strength looks more holistic than ever, not only presenting physically, but also in a spiritual and mental capacity. Our mission is to give you the tools and education you need to feel secure and confident as you journey through your own pregnancy and postpartum chapters. Whether we feel ready or not, motherhood immerses us in opportunities to grow in strength. These opportunities are often paired with feelings of helplessness, frustration, loneliness, exhaustion, and these feelings are not exactly moments that we love. The sufferings that a mother endures are one of the most powerful example of Gods love. «Love cannot remain by itself – it has no meaning. Love has to be put into action, and that action is service. » – St. Teresa of Calcutta
Mamas, I know it’s tempting to give in to the desire to “get your body back” and our athlete brain sometimes creates unrealistic expectations during a tender time. Strength in this postpartum period presents itself as grace and discipline. We are all so ready to jump back into the old routine because 9 months in a pregnant body feels like a long time. What you need to know is that this time is in fact temporary and that practicing patience in your fitness life will create more function for the future. It is OKAY to want goals and to return to the activities you love most. We love that. It is OKAY to take a break and be with baby for a while. We honour that. Most of all, we want you to know that YOU WILL return to what you love doing and that we want you to be educated throughout the process. We can teach you how to get there while simultaneously giving your body the time & love it needs to repair. For us, it is important to meet you where you are and progress from there. I hope that you feel encouraged to reach out and bring your attention on creating a life full of joy.
